Municipality Registration
Our Student Support team will inform you by email how and when to register at the municipality of Rotterdam. They organize specific days to register with the municipality at our university. So no need to make an appointment on your own.
If you are living in a different city you will be required to register by yourself. Please check which documents you then need to be registered, as this can differ per city.
Students who will be staying in the Netherlands for longer than 4 months are required to register at the municipality.
To register you will need the following:
SSH Dorms:
- SSH rental contract (you will receive it when you pick up your keys) + copy
- Passport + copy
- Filled in application form (BRP)
Private Housing, renting through an agency:
- Rental contract + copy
- Passport + copy
- Filled in application form (BRP)
Private Housing, renting a room or an apartment directly from main tenant or landlord:
- Rental contract + copy
- Declaration by the main occupant or landlord
- Copy of main tenant's passport or ID
- Passport + copy
- Filled in application form (BRP)
Private housing in a neighbourhood that requires a housing permit:
- Rental contract + copy
- Declaration by the main occupant or tenant (if not from rental agency)
- Copy of main tenant's passport or ID (if not from rental agency)
- Filled in application form (BRP)
- Housing permit

BSN Number
After you have registered at the municipality you will receive your personal BSN number. This number will arrive in the post to the registered address and can take from 2-3 weeks to arrive.
The BSN number works as your personal registration number in the Netherlands and is used for official matters such as:
Work contracts
Taking out a DIGI D
Registration for other official matters
Bank account
Insurance
Phone contract
Hospitals
University matters

Visa Application Procedure
International students from outside the EU/EEA who plan to study in the Netherlands for more than 3 months need to apply for an entry visa and/or a Dutch residence permit.

When you are admitted for a study programme at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, you will be informed about the MVV / VVR procedure by the Student Support office.
Please make sure you send in the required documents to our student support department before you come to the Netherlands, they will let you know which documents are required.

Housing Permit
If you have found accommodation in an area that requires a housing permit then you must also apply for the housing permit, for this you must present proof of income and other papers.
Student Support also has an agreement with the municipality in regards to housing permits and we assist students in collaboration with the municipality to make separate appoinments for them. Student are informed about this by email.
TB Appointment
To keep the Residence Permit, some non-European students need to visit the Dutch Public Health Authority (GGD) after they arrived in the Netherlands. They will undergo a medical test for tuberculosis (TB). This is a requirement from the IND (Dutch Immigration Office). If your nationality is on this list, you do not have to undergo the TB test. The Centre of International Affairs will schedule a group appointment for all students who need to undergo a TB test. You will receive more information about this during the introduction days.
Paying Tuition Fees
EU students:
1. Log in and register for the desired course through Studielink.nl
2. You will receive an email from Studielink asking for your payment details and authorization
3. Enter the payment details of the bank account you will use to pay the tuition fees
4.Studielink will charge the study fees to this account in August/September
Non-EU students:
1.Log in and register for the desired course
2. Send visa and educational documentation to the Centre of Int. Affairs
3. Pay tuition fees, visa fees and deposit for living one year through invoice.
Note: There are some students who will not follow the above procedure, they will be informed about it. For example, Pre-master and MCE EU students pay via invoice not via Studielink.
